Robust Uncertainty Management

The Robust Uncertainty Management (RUM) program developed and demonstrated techniques for the analysis of nonlinear spatiotemporal systems on multiple scales leading to control of uncertainty. The methods developed include the design of experiments with nonlinear systems, model order reduction methods with estimates of uncertainty, and techniques that minimize computational costs while maintaining required precision and accuracy. Maturation of these technologies will lead to methods for control and optimization of large, federated systems with dynamics on multiple spatiotemporal scales to specified bounds. Propagating and managing uncertainty is of critical importance in large dynamical DoD systems with thousands of variables and multiple spatio-temporal scales.
