Team Description* IndyRobotics, LLC, parent company of the Indy Robot Racing Team, officially announced today the team’s entry in the DARPA Grand Challenge 2005 sponsored by the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA). Team Indiana includes a diverse group of successful entrepreneurs, professors and students from Indiana University, Purdue University and other Indiana universities as well as technical and marketing professionals throughout the state.

“More than a century ago, Hoosier native Wilbur Wright and his brother Orville successfully completed the world’s first flight. This Fall, an equally dedicated all Indiana team hopes to follow in the Wright brothers footsteps and invent the next generation of transportation vehicles,” stated Scott Jones, CEO of IndyRobotics.

“We have recruited a talented team of engineers, software developers, project managers and marketing professionals to help us compete in this exciting endeavor.”

A Jeep Rubicon, dubbed Indiana’s Robotic Vehicle, or IRV, has been retrofitted with global positioning systems, stabilization systems, lasers, multi-view cameras, gyroscopes and accelerometers. A recent successful autonomous field test was performed in Carmel, Indiana.

“The race is more than just the prize money, it’s an opportunity to create intellectual property that could lead to the development of high-tech companies here in Indiana,” said Jones.

Sponsors* Ahnafield Corporation, SICK Corporation, NavCom Technology, Computer Renaissance, Champion Chrysler Jeep, Temporal Dynamics, and Bitwise Solutions.
