Team Description* Axion Racing is one of only seven teams that "officially qualified" for the 2004 DARPA Grand Challenge. They were also one of only four teams that ran a perfect qualifying run. With off-the-shelf LADAR, SONAR, RADAR stereo cameras, high definition maps, servo-actuators, and the Axion Arbitrator this race vehicle drives itself with just a simple on and off command.

Using a production model SUV, autonomous vehicle control can be initiated within seconds. Superior coding, planning, individual expertise, and a little luck provide exceptional results. Axion Racing has matched every capability of its viable competitors and now has the best GPS system money can buy.

By using sophisticated software design the Axion Arbitrator can easily integrate up to 64 different sensors. Integration includes route planning, superior two antenna GPS, efficient mapping, artificial intelligence, and low-cost design.

Field testing indicates that Axion Racing will be a favorite to win the 2005 DARPA Grand Challenge and its $2 Million prize.

Sponsors* Amphitech and SICK
